Communicate and Circulate

We were super excited to make some limited-edition zines for Good Press a couple weeks ago. They will be showing up this week at Communicate and Circulate, a show dedicated to print and publishing in the independent arts.

We’re even more pumped up that the dream of Crummy House is coming to life. In one year, we were able to make art with 10+ artists. Now, on top of all that goodness, we also have opportunity, thanks to our friends Matt and Jess at Good Press, to show this work to a different audience.

We are very thankful for the artists and friends that are making this what it is and hope to continue sending work into the world. We will wrap this year up with two artists to be announced very soon and share some news about our plans for next year, including what we plan on doing with all this great art that we made this year. STAY TUNED!

Good Press is rad

Every once in a while in this life, something happens out of thin air and you’re left wondering “How the hell did that happen?” This applies to an introduction by two of the nicest, warmest individuals I have ever met on the internet. Matthew Walkerdine and Jess Higgins are Museums Press, a self-publisher based in Glasgow, Scotland.

Recently, the two opened Good Press, a gallery space in the music label, Monorail‘s cafe/headquarters. We were asked to submit a limited-edition release of zines to be included in a show in early November.

Click here to see what we came up with.

Renee Fernandez

We’re super excited to be working with friend and creative accomplice Renee Fernandez on the next Crummy House zine. We’ve gotten to hang around and draw with Renee a handful of times before, but we’re way excited to be working on some art pieces together. We’re gonna try our best to get this zine out on time. Fingers crossed.

Museums Press = Matt + Jess

This is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO RAAAAAAAAAAAADDDDDDDDDDDD! Fellow M + J consonant enthusiasts and CRUMMY # 5 participants Matt and Jess of Museums Press are opening a Good Press, working space, gallery, bookshop and small cafe for individuals and groups to showcase their projects in Glasgow. What a dream, I say. In the mean time, they plan to open a series of temporary exhibition spaces in unused shops across Glasgow to raise funds and awareness of the project; so they need some cash! They are only trying to reach 1000 Euro. You can pledge some doh over at Sponsume, the UK version of Kickstarter. These are super creative, and good people that promote creatives from all over. They totally deserve the backing, if you got it.

Gotcha

Bet you thought this was the next zine release! We are a little behind on our schedule, but we are back to work today on our release from Martin Svoboda.

For now, enjoy these images from Paul Windle‘s newest zine release, Mid-70’s Baseball Dudes. We’ve been talking with Mr. Windle about a zine in the near future. Hopefully, we play our cards right and get to work with this talented artist before he’s all booked up. No puns intended. Nyuk, nyuk.

Stay tuned, we’ve got a great book to show you in the coming day or so and a new artist to announce for our June collaboration. We’re bringing the party back home, folks, with an artist right here in Austin.

Slowly moving

martinswork

Slowly but surely, we are moving forward with our collaboration this month. We’re finally coming to grips with the time you must dedicate to a self-publishing project. It always takes more time than you think, but it is fun and we like to have fun. Here’s a little sneak peak of what you can expect in the next Crummy zine. For now, go tell a friend about Crummy House and have a good Friday!

Winner’s Press

It’s so cool to see the photos from Zinery, a show that Winner’s Press put together not too long ago. We spotted a few Crummy zines in there. Thanks WP! Go over there and check out the photos.

This is what they were doing: “We will be creating a zine installation for 2011 Southern Graphics Council International Conference, at Washington University in St. Louis’s Weitman Gallery. The intent is to fill the space with zines to create an interactive exhibition and zine making event.”

Martin Svoboda

While we finish up the collaboration with Museums Press, we thought we’d introduce our next collaborator.

Martin Svoboda emailed us early in the year and asked if he could participate in a Crummy mission. We love enthusiasm and we love Martin’s work so we were proud and excited to announce our collaboration. For now, you can view a bit more of Martin’s work at his website FUNKFU.

We’re looking forward to working with Mr. Svoboda on a cool Crummy zine. Stay tuned for more!

Parts in Motion

There’s a bunch going on in the Crummy House these days. We’ve taken on a pretty cool project that we’ll get to tell you a bit more about in the near future. For now, Jessica and I are just teaming up on the art that Matthew and Jess from Museums Press have sent us. If you haven’t checked out MP’s blog, you should.

There’s a ton of great artists on there, many of whom you may have never heard of before.

Looking forward to showing this cool new zine about food – our first overseas collaboration. We’ll also be announcing the next Crummy artist this week or early next. We are continuing our worldly collaborations with this next Crummy artist from far away.

Hungry?

That last zine was absolutely crazy fun to make and might be pretty hard to top. And there aren’t many things in this world that are better than making some killer art with good friends. Good thing our next book is all about that thing we love the most – FFFFFFFOOOOODDDDDDD!!!! The even cooler thing is we are making this zine with Matt and Jess of Museums Press and from what we see already, we’re gonna have some crazy munchie-making madness for the next couple weeks as we prepare to make a zine devoted to that stuff that makes you go mmmmmmm! (PS. Our zine launch party got rescheduled, but we have some new thoughts in mind. Stay tuned Crummy Austin Crew for some fun hangout sessions in the future.)
